Healthy and delicious Cargo will land at TRE Shop in August
Cargo Coffee + Vegetarian Food is known for its charming container coffee shop in the other end of the popular cycling lane Baana, which runs through the west side of the city centre in Helsinki. The container turned into a restaurant feels like a charming but modern summer house in the middle of the city.
We are happy to have this vegetarian oasis as part of TRE shop, at Mikonkatu 6, starting August. Owners, Kristiina Fekete-Perttala and Anni Eskeli from Cargo Coffee + Vegetarian Food, will tell us more about the concept.
What is the concept of Cargo Coffee + Vegetarian Food at TRE shop?
Cargo Coffee + Vegetarian Food @ TRE focuses on quality, freshness, health and ecological living. At Cargo you can enjoy lunch, coffees and teas or find something to take away from a selection of products. Our own fresh juices, smoothies, salads and soups are all on the menu including sweet treats from our own kitchen and Patisserie Petitpas. We are 75% vegan and 100% healthy.
I heard you will invest in great coffee?
Coffee is an important part of Cargo and we feel strongly about knowing the origin of our coffee beans. Johan & Nyström is our supplier and we source our teas through them, too. All our coffee drinks are hand-made by our baristas on a beautiful Victoria Arduino White Eagle espresso machine.
You will be serving wine and beer, too?
Yes, our alcoholic beverage selection includes for example stunning organic and biodynamic wines from Ekowine, organic beers and ciders from Hartwall and Maku Brewery, and a gluten-free beer from Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas. Pair with food or just drop by for a drink!
How was Cargo born?
We are old friends and have always shared an interest in food and entertaining. We had a strong vision about Cargo and planned it for a long time. It was natural for us to start a business together – we are passionate about getting things done and wanted to create a great new coffee house and restaurant in Helsinki. The idea for Cargo’s first coffee shop and restaurant, a separate container, originally came from Anni´s brother, Antti, who is an industrial designer. Our architects worked on the projects for 3 1/2 years until we finally got building permits, and were able to open last spring.
Tell us about your food philosophy!
We always try and find the best people with the best products, and are very selective what we sell and who we work with. We aim to be as seasonal as possible, and keep health aspects in mind too. Food should taste great but also make you feel great, too!
